When & where did Hinduism actually start? I'm trying to find out and some things say it started in Ancient India while others say Aryans went to India and brought their gods which grew into Hinduism. I can't figure it out.

Aryans brought Hinduism with them when they came from Europe. There is tons of scientific evidence to show the same.

SCIENTIFIC PAPERS:

Papers published in the journals Cell

and Science reinforced two well-established facts of ancient Indian history:

  • Indus Valley Civilisation was pre-Vedic i.e. Vedas came to India after ~ 1300 BC.
  • Sanskrit came to India through migrants (when the Indus Valley Civilisation had declined). The earliest used of Sanskrit has been seen in SYRIA .

GENETICS:

Genetics also agrees with this theory. There is a common gene called AASI (Ancient Ancestral South Indians)

that is found in high levels in Aboriginals of Australia & in Dravidians of South India but has low levels in North Indians.

MIGRATORY PATH & ZOROASTRIANISM:

Every migratory culture leaves influences on their migration path.

When the Vedic Aryans came to the Indian subcontinent, they came via Persia. The Vedic Aryans conflicted with the Persians and used to call the Persian as Asuras (i.e. followers of Ahura). The Persians used to call Vedic Aryans as Daevas (i.e. followers of Devs).

  • In Vedic/Hindu literature, Asuras (Ahuras) are bad guys while Devas are heroes.
  • In Zoroastrian/Persian literature, Ahuras (Asuras) are heroes while Daevas are the villains.

Vedic Aryans also had many regressive practices like casteism, phallus worship, sati etc. The Zoroastrians regarded those practices as evil. There is a prayer in Zoroastrian books that criticize the Vedic Aryan gods as arrogant lies and called Vedic religion as “seed of bad thought".

[Yasna Ch 32]
[3] (Zarathushtra) — But ye, ye Daevas all, and he that highly honors you, are the seed of Bad Thought — yes, and of the Lie and of Arrogance, likewise your deeds, whereby ye have long been known in the seventh region of the earth.
[4] For ye have brought it to pass that men who do the worst things shall be called beloved of the Daevas, separating themselves from Good Thought, departing from the will of Mazda Ahura and from Right.
[5] Thereby ye defrauded mankind of happy life and immortality, by the deed which he and the Bad Spirit together with Bad Thought and Bad Word taught you, ye Daevas and the Liars, so as to ruin (mankind).

When the Vedic Aryans moved further, they arrived in the Indian subcontinent, they were faced by the native Dravidians. They pushed the Dravidians to the south of the Indian subcontinent. The Dravidians that got conquered were placed as low caste in Vedic Aryan society.

The Vedic Aryans continued to call the enemy as “Asuras", but the description of the Asuras changed to looking more like the Dravidians (i e. present day south-Indians) with dark skin, large facial hair etc.

Why some fundamentalist Hindus are against Aryan Invasion?

  • This theory clearly demonstrates that Hinduism is not native to India. This makes Hinduism no less invader than other religions, like Islam & Christianity.
  • This theory invalidates all the Hindu mythology like Ram was born in Ayodhya 7000 years ago or Krishna spent childhood in Vrindavan 5000 years ago because Harrapan Valley existed till around 4000 years ago and Vedic Aryans came towards the tail end of those civilizations.
  • This theory invalidates the need to impose North Indian narrative, culture & languages on South Indian people under the guise of “unity” or “uniformity” because they are two diverse races that reside in India.
